Whether you are an individual with a disability or a family member…there are many issues to explore and to understand when looking towards the future and planning for a living arrangement.

First of all, where can you find affordable housing especially given the very limited income of most persons with disabilities?  The North Bay Housing Coalition’s mission is to accomplish this very difficult challenge due to the high cost of housing in our area of Napa , Solano, and Sonoma Counties .

It is virtually impossible for someone living on fixed income to live in his/her own place without significant assistance from different programs.  We hope this website will help you find those resources and apply them to your situation as appropriate.

But housing is not the only consideration when exploring the possibility of living in one’s own home.  One must also understand what types of support can be provided in order to live as independently as possible.  There are several agencies that provide supportive living and/or independent living services.

Finally, the third important piece is understanding different programs such as MediCal, In Home Support Services, and the Social Security Administration programs.

What guides one in bringing all these pieces together are one’s underlying values and principles.  What is most important to you?  Health and safety?  Friendship and companionship?  Living close to family, friends, job, and social opportunities?  It is not just about planning for living arrangement, but building and supporting one’s lifestyle in a way that makes sense to the individual.

The North Bay Housing Coalition through its services seeks to support individuals with developmental disabilities (and their families) and to enhance their lives as they live within their chosen community.
